Sažetak
Bio-ecological and fisheries characteristics of the bluntnose sixgill sharks Hexanchus griseus (Bonnaterre, 1788) landed at the wholesale fish market in Valletta, Malta are presented in this thesis. A total of 486 specimens were recorded in the period from June 2009 to June 2015. These specimen records were analysed in detail according to specimen length, fishing gear and fishing area when those parameters were known. The sex ratio is 1:1.67 (males : females) and was found to be statistically significantly different from the 1:1. Morphometric analyses were conducted for the specimens recorded in the period from January 2015 to May 2015. Descriptive statistics are presented for 8 measurements (total length (TL), pre-anal length (PAL), pre-dorsal length (PD), pre-pelvic length (PP2), pre-pectoral length (PP1), head length (HDL) and preorbital length (POB)) and for 7 morphometric relationships (PCL/TL, PAL/TL, PD/TL, PP2/TL, PP1/TL, HDL/TL and POB/TL). There was no significant difference between sexes for the previously mentioned 7 relationships. Relative growth of the head, body and tail regions was also investigated. Statistical significance was found only for body and tail sections. Obtained data will be used as preliminary standpoint for future investigation on this poorly researched species.
