Sažetak
OBJECTIVES Nutritious foods are the most important factor in the period of growth and development. In this study we examined the eating quality in preschoolers from kindergartens of the city of Rijeka. MATERIALS AND METHODS During the years from 1985 to 2000 biological quality of nutrition of children aged from 3 to 6 years staying in the kindergartens 8-10 hours a day was followed up. As standard for the assessment of biological validity of planned meals, they were taken in consideration 85% daily energetic needs, nutritive and protective substances for children of this age recommended by American Academy of Sciences (RDA). In the study, 479 daily meals were analysed in total by the method of "random samples". RESULTS The average energy value of meals, ratio of nutritive substances and fibres in analysed meals were in physiological limits. The vitamins and minerals (vitamin A, B1 , B2, B6, niacin, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus and iron) intake was within recommended values for studied age group. CONCLUSION The examinations pointed out, that besides correct planning of nutrition, it is necessary to educate the workers in kindergartens and young children, in the same time.
