Sažetak
Nowdays, it is obvious that the prestige of democracy in Europe has never been higher. The new European awareness of the unitiy of destiny in a multicultural society, with borders wide open to flow of people and ideas, wants to reach „the state of interculturalism“ as an active, creative process, without which such society is not possible. Regarding the rule of democracy and interculturalism, there is a gap between theory and practice. There is a dark side of the idea of universal human rights for all, which shows that there still exist various forms of discrimination, while the proclaimed values often are empty ideological forms, both, in the countries of Southeast Europe, often accused for obscurantism, and in western cuontries, where discirimnatory relations towards differences in circumstances of growing diversities in society, are more pronounced. The problem is that discrimination is often not recognized, or it is passed over in silence, both at the individual and at the social level. Recognition and identification of discrimination is a necessary condition for interculturalism , today articulted as a world movement, and education which has almost always been a result of the ruling values in any society, now is faced with new challenges, of which the most important is the implementation of intercultural communication whose subject is the creation of relationships that break down prejudices and stigmatization.
