Sažetak
The history of the Roma population in many European countries was marked by repressive policy of assimilation which has often led to their persecution. In this context, the culmination of the persecution of the Roma population in Europe experienced in the period from the arrival of the National Socialists under Adolf Hitler in Germany in the 1930s, and it was initially implemented with "euthanasia" and sterilization and this Nazi policy had a goal to protect the racial purity of the German nation. This kind of a Nazi policy had in pre-war Europe a significant influence on the escalation of the anti-Gypsy policy in other European countries, which was particularly evident during the Second World War, when was committed genocide against Roma, which some have called the “porjamosom”. The Roma people also suffered greatly during the Second World War in other European countries. In some countries their persecution was marked by a racial policy aimed towards the final solution of what many state authorities called the ‘Gypsy Question’ – a term that had been in use for several centuries. In a way, the Second World War can be considered one of the high points of the domicile (European) population’s hostility towards the Roma as the eternal ‘others’ (foreigners). This hostility is usually encompassed by the term antiziganism. The presentation will be focused on the analysis of suffering of the Roma in Europe during World War II, whit special focus on comparisment some of the policies of other European authorities with the policy of the Nazi government in Germany.
