Sažetak
Objective: Chronic apical periodontitis is caused by the microorganism organized in the biofilm and vary from individual to individual which denotes heterogeneous etiology of disease. The aim of this study was to identify microorganism from periapical lesions causing chronic apical periodontitis. Methods: Ten adult patients after endodontic treatment were selected for endodontic surgery, apicoectomy. During the surgical procedure, the samples for bacterial cultivation, isolation and identification were taken from the periapical lesions. The samples were analyzed in microbiological laboratory using VITEK 2 commercial system for bacterial identification. Results From 10 samples 28 microorganism were isolated: eighteen (64.3%) gram-positive and ten (35.7%) gram-negative types. The amount of aerobic species was 8 (28.5%), while 20 species were facultative and strict anaerobes (71.4%). The isolated bacterial species are identified streptococci (21.4%), staphylococci (21.4%), enterobacteria (10.1%), gram-negative non-ferment bacteria (NF) (17.8%) and anaerobic bacteria (29.3%). Predominated group were anaerobic bacteria (29.3%). Conclusion Chronic apical periodontitis is caused by polymicrobial infection with many as-yet uncultivated microorganisms. In this study 28 different microorganisms were identified including species which according to our knowledge are not described in literature: Pantoea agglomerans, Oligella ureolytica, Pediococcus pentosaceus, Peptonihilus asaccharolyticus.
