Sažetak
The paper presents the results of original research based on the comparative analysis of the map of Dalmatia by Johannes Janssonius and maps by his contemporaries. We discover which map bases Janssonius used for his representation of Dalmatia and the text printed on the reverse side of his map. We trace the special roles of Croatian cartographers and of Venetian and Ottoman reports dealing with the border. Furthermore, the paper evaluates the importance of Janssonius's map in disseminating knowledge about the geography and history of Dalmatia, as well as the influence of his map on the perception of the countries bordering the Ottoman Empire in general.
