Sažetak
The intention of this contribution is to throw some light on the ancient origins of the concept of general principles of law as a source of international law. We dedicate it to our revered Professor Budislav Vukas, who from the very beginnings of his scholarly work has expressed a profound interest in the possible use of ancient legal maxims as principles of law applied in contemporary international law. On the basis of the analysis, we can conclude that the modern concept of the general principles of law as a source of international law has some of its oldest roots in the classical Roman legal concept of the praecepta iuris.
