The article outlines Religious Education at schools in Croatia on the basis of thirteen key issues: the socio-religious background of the country, the legal framework for Religious Education and the relationship between religious communities and the state, the developments in the conutry's education policy, the role of religiosly sponsored schools, the conceptions and tasks of Religious Education, the practice (reality) of Religious Education in different schools, the observations on alternative subject(s) or learning areas, the dealing with religious diversity, the place of religion in schools outside of Religious Education, the training of teachers of Religious Education, the empirical research concerning Religious Education at schools, the desiderata (challenges) for Religious Education in a European context, the informations on relevant literature on Religious Education, instutions and websites. This allows comparison between different countries of Central Europe and Europe in general.
