Sažetak
In modern society stress is an inevitable part of life among adults as well as among children and young people. Research has shown that exposure to stressors at young age can leave different unfavourable consequences on the complete development and function of a person. Therefore, in the past several decades scientists have focused their attention on researching the ways of coping with stress in adolescence. Coping process with young people should be studied in the context of different factors, such as socio-demographic features and social circumstances. The aim of this research was to study strategies of coping with stress and ways of spending leisure time among adolescents. In this research participated 103 second-grade high-school students from the area of the city of Zagreb. Students answered a survey on Adolescents’ coping aimed at experienced problems (A-COPE, Patterson i McCubbin, 1987.) and Questionnaire on the ways of spending free time (Brdar i Lončarić, 2003.). Data were analized by using t-test and Pearsons corelation. Statistical data analysis shows that there are differences of spending free time based on gender and there are also differences in using strategies of coping with stress based on gender. Furthermore, the results show that there is a connection between the ways of spending free time and used strategies of coping with stress. Therefore it is important to point young people to spend their free time with qualitiy and teach them healthy strategies for coping with stress to enshure healthy development.
