Sažetak
NKG2D is a receptor with dual function in immune response to the viruses: it is the main activating NK cell receptor and co-stimulatory receptor on CD8 T cells. Therefore, it plays a role in innate immunity as well as in shaping of specific memory of adaptive arm of immune system. NKG2D signaling is triggered upon recognition of its ligands, the MHC I-like proteins induced by cellular stress. Murine cytomegalovirus expressing NKG2D ligand RAE-1γ (RAE-1γ MCMV) has been shown to be dramatically attenuated in vivo, but still managed to generate robust virus-specific CD8 T cell response (Slavuljica et al., 2010). When RAE- 1γMCMV was co-expressing foreign CD8 T cell epitope, it demonstrated capacity to serve as an excellent vaccine-vector due to highly protective CD8 T cells it induced. Moreover, RAE1γ-expressing MCMV retained its exceptional vector properties also in NKG2D deficient mice, revealing additional immune function of RAE1γ which is independent of NKG2D receptor.
