Sažetak
City of Zagreb is the capital of the Republic of Croatia, a city rich in history and diversity, with the first written mention from 1094. Research on the historical and urban development, as part of understanding the reality of Zagreb today, is conducted through interpretation of available texts and photographic documentation of Zagreb history and present. Studying multiple factors of historical and urban development of Zagreb, the context of space and time is defined. Through interpretation of defined context of space and time, characteristics of Zagreb development periods are read out. Nine stages of Zagreb urban development are detected, and within every particular stage, characteristic principles of urban development are defined. For every detected stage, principles of Zagreb urban development are recognized in two way – through „code of practice“ of architects and urban planners within the given circumstances – and through „city themes“ that embodies certain principle. Each „code of practice“ and „city theme“ is individually presented through photographs of it`s most recognizable realization, creating photographic series of city achievements that present urban development of Zagreb. Comparing historic and contemporary photographs of selected Zagreb case studies, individual „code of practice“ and „city themes“ are studied through photographic documentation. Study is conducted on historic principles of Zagreb urban development, participation of historic principles in present Zagreb and defining contemporary principles of Zagreb urban development. Through interpretation of the opposing photo-documents, ideas, values and principles of individual architectural and urban planning strategies are established.
