Sažetak
In this paper, a numerical analysis of the coil heat transfer process of tank heating is provided. In addition, a cargo flow within the tank is also studied. The two-dimensional natural convection analysis is performed by the finite volume method, which is capable of accurately evaluating the heat and fluid flow processes within the tank. The main outcome of the study is the finding that the coil surface heat transfer coefficient is significantly higher than the value provided by the conventional natural convection theory. For a typical heavy fuel oil heating case, a surface heat transfer coefficient higher than 130W/m2K is determined. In addition, powerful oil whirling is found to peak at 0.25m/s, even in early phases of the cargo heating process. Cargo circulation enhances the heat flow and thermal distribution within the tank.
