Sažetak
Health monitoring of wildlife species is an important part of the veterinary public health. This is further emphasized in the protected areas of nature due to the lack of management measures and frequent visits by humans and companion animals. Such conditions increase risk of mutual transmission of pathogens, including those with zoonotic potential. Wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) is omnivorous species exhibiting population overgrowth throughout the country. In this two-year study we have collected samples of wild boar faeces (n=63 ; 38♂ and 25♀) from Medvednica Nature Park. Since Medvednica is divided into 7 protection areas samples were collected as following: area 1 - 11 samples, 2 – 10, 3 – 10, 4 – 5, 5 – 14, 6 – 4, and 7 – 9. Samples were analysed using flotation and sedimentation methods. Strongylid eggs were found most frequently (in 41 samples ; 65.1%), followed by coccidian oocysts (31 ; 49.2%), Metastrongylus lungworm eggs (25 ; 39.7%), Trichuris suis eggs (17 ; 26.9%) and Ascaris suum eggs (2 ; 3.2%). Prevalence of intestinal parasites was 71% in males, and 76% in females. Identified parasites represent normal parasitic fauna of wild boars. Potentially zoonotic nematode eggs were detected in 26.9 % (T. suis) and 3.2 % (A. suum) of samples.
