Sažetak
Background: Hellin's law states that if the rate of twinning in an population is 1/N, then the incidence of triplets is 1/N2, the incidence of quadruplets is 1/N3 etc. (before IVF era). Croatia doesn't have law for reproductive medicine, it's in making for the lasdt 10 years. We only have recommendation froma National Medical Association for Reproductive Medicine and from Perinatas Association, from 1999. This recommendation reduced ET to max.3. However, multiple pregnancies carry certain risks such as: prematurity, IUGR, malformations, fetofetal transfusion syndrome. Aim: to evaluate outcome of the newborns after IVF. Methods: Database at University hospital Petrova. Total number of delivery 39575, afted IVF 828 (2, 1%), total number of newborns 40428, after IVF 1186 (2, 93%). Results: Statystical analysis showed significant difference between IVF newborns and newborns in control group. In IVF group there was a higher rate of multiple pregnancies, there were more newborns with low birth weight, more preterm newborns, higher number of stillborn, more admission at the NICU and longer recovery ; higher fetal, early neonatal and perinatal mortality. S.C. was performed more often than vaginal delivery. Conclusion: Multiple pregnancies showed lower GA at the delivery, lower VLBW, higher percentage of malformation, higher relative frequencies of celebral palsy. The higher number of fetuses in woumb, the higher probability of these complications.
