Sažetak
Summary The article points out the importance of epidemiological approach to the study and treatment of rheumatic diseases. Ali the patients treated in hospitals for such serious but relatively rare rheumatic diseases should be registered in a special book. Otherwise it is difficult to find out from the usual statistical data whether one deals with new patients or loith the relapse of illness in the same patients. For chronic, frequent rheumatic diseases, mostly of degenerative origin, the best survey can be obtained by testing the representative specimens of population. Such examinations ivere performed on the basis of three specimens of age-groups of the population of the Socialist Republic of Croatia. 5000 people betmeen 22 and 84 vears were examined. The article stresses the fact that it is important to differentiate between the persons examined according to their subjective rheumatic symptoms only and ivithout clinical findings, and those patients who have both subjective symptoms and clinical findings. Then there are those who, in spite of the clinical findings showing locomotor disturbances, have no subjective symptoms. The conclusion is that epidemiological approach can offer a good survey of morbidity in population. Hoivever, it is useful to carry out special, planned epidemiological studies in smaller, specific groups, especially in organizations of associated labour.
