Sažetak
We analyse the short-term effects of weekly average NO_2 concentrations on the count of emergency room visits due to respiratory causes, in particular asthma, in the University Hospital for Lung Disease, Zagreb. Trend and seasonality effects were estimated by locally weighted regression (LOESS) and removed from the data. Weekly average NO_2 was significantly associated with the count of emergency asthma cases, but not with the total number of emergency respiratory cases. An increase of 10 micro g/m^3 in weekly average concentration of NO_2 corresponded approximately to RR of 1.098 (95% CI 1.002 to 1.203) and 1.019 (95% CI 0.990 to 1.049) for asthma and total respiratory cases respectively.
