Sažetak
Usage of natural dyes, derived from natural plant sources, for dyeing of textiles is increasing in recent years because of the increased consumer desire to replace synthetic chemicals by natural compounds. Natural dye obtained from Spartium junceum L. plant was investigated in this paper for the possible usage in wool dyeing. The dye was prepared by aqueous extraction. Wool fabric was dyed without and with mordants (alum, copper sulphate and iron sulphate) in acidic, neutral and alkaline medium. Absorption spectra of dye solution, dye yield, dye uptake (color strength measurement) and CIE L*a*b* properties were investigated. The results indicated that dye extracted from Spartium junceum L. flowers shows the highest amount of pigments in the alkaline medium and has high potential as a source of natural dyes for textile materials.
