Sažetak
Leisure activities provide a specific context that can have a positive impact on the development of adolescents. Research indicates that spending time in family leisure-time activities is related with adolescents’ larger emotional bonding with family, better academic performance, and lower risk for behavioral problems. Also, research indicates that adolescent motivational styles influence their free-time choices. This study examines the motivation and demographic characteristics influencing the involvement in leisure-time activities with family among high school students in Croatia. We use survey data of 849 high school students to investigate frequency of adolescents’ involvement in leisure-time activities with family, their free time motivation, gender, school grade, and type of school which they are attending. We will present findings that reveal relation between certain types of free-time motivation, demographic characteristics, and participation in leisure activities with family. The research findings will be further discussed from the educational standpoint and compared with those of other studies.
