Sažetak
The talk focused on the practices of representing United States of America in literature and popular culture of Yugoslav socialism. Those texts had an important role in the creation and dissemination of a widespread notion of ''America'' as a political metaphor. The analysis shows how these perceptions had created an ambivalent and complex American socialist imagery that balanced between utopia and critique which metaphorically corresponded with the self-perception of Yugoslavia in the different phases of Yugoslav socialism.
