Sažetak
The impact of the position and size of the entrance on the exchange between the seawater in the marina and the open sea in the northern and southern Adriatic was analysed by a 3D numerical model. The breakwaters were treated as vertical impervious barriers in the model analyses, and the hypothetical layout configuration of the marina (position inputs and width of the entrance to the marina, proportion of the length and width of the marina) was varied as well. The sea currents in the model domain were generated by using non-stationary boundary conditions in the form of time series of the sea levels based on seven constituents of the tidal signal. The wind-driven forcing was not taken into consideration. The results of the study show that the entrance to the marine constructed on the part of the breakwater which is positioned perpendicular to the direction of the flow along the coastline (side entrance) reduces the concentration of the tracer solution in the marina by an average of 42%. Simultaneously, the analysed conditions with the entrance to the marina positioned in the direction of the flow along the coastline (frontal entrance) show a reduction of 34% on average. The largest contribution to the exchange of the sea between the waters of the marina and the open sea is achieved in the conditions of the geometric relationship of the length and width of the marina of 1: 1 (L/D=1).
