Sažetak
Waste management is one of the key ecological challenges of the modern and developing world. The framework of the waste management system or concept has to be determined by law, governing bodies and institutions. Sometimes, difficulties with acceptance of some technologies, like incineration, or people small comprehension in separate collection systems can be huge obstacle for implementation of waste management concepts. It is necessary to analyze the comprehensiveness waste issue, determine the environmental awareness of the population and main streams in education for waste. Environmental education will enable acquisition of ecological knowledge and skills in order to raise public awareness of an effective participation in the implementation of the waste management system. It is necessary to encourage the population to changes in behaviour and increase the level of awareness of an effective participation in the implementation of the waste management system, the development of new knowledge on waste and by building new value in the education and promotion activities in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, colleges and households and companies. Eco-education and eco-culture are interrelated and have a cause-effect relationship. Paper is focused on education waste main streams using the example of Croatia, youngest EU member.
