Sažetak
The phytochemical profile of sea fennel included analysis of isolated essential oils (EOs), as well as the total phenolics and chlorogenic acid content in the extracts obtained from different plant parts (flowers, stems and leaves). The dominant compound in all investigated EOs was limonene while in extracts was chlorogenic acid. The main phytochemicals as well as the flower EO and extract were tested on: antioxidant activity by three methods (FRAP, DPPH and Briggs-Rauscher method), cholinesterase (acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase) inhibition by Ellman method and vasodilatory activity tested on rat aortic rings. The antioxidant activity of EO was significantly low in comparison to extracts, while it showed better cholinesterase inhibition. On the other hand, extract and chlorogenic acid were stronger vasodilators in comparison to EO and limonene. The obtained results point out the significant impact of the dominant compounds from extract and EO on biological properties of the sea fennel.
