Sažetak
The starting point in this field is a differentiation between the two approaches to the family and family therapy. One approach can be named family therapy in a wider sense, or family- oriented therapy, in which individual therapy of the patient (either the child or the adult) is enlarged by introducing family members to the therapy i.e., by the presence of these members in both individual and group treatment included in the psychotherapeutic school applied in the treatment. The other approach is named family therapy in a narrower sense, or simply, family therapy, which is characterized by treating the family inward, outward, conscious, unconscious, past and present relationships. In this therapy, the family is considered as a basic unit which is treated on the basis of a solid and unique theoretical knowledge. In this paper, also analysed are the basic principles of family therapy in the world. Finally, proposed is a related psychodynamics as a paradigm, a theoretically based approach to family and family therapy, with the emphases on the principal elements of all main theoretical approaches to family psychotherapy. Family therapy cannot be considered as a supplement or a simple application of the existing therapeutic techniques, nor as one therapy more for such indications. It is not a new technique, but a new approach to the man and his psychic disturbances. It is not the treatment of the patient in or within his family but the treatment of the family itself whose disorder is manifested through one or more of its members.
