Sažetak
The adsorption of linoleic acid and the interaction with Cd(II) ion, at the charged mercury/solution interface, were measured by cyclic voltammetry, single sweep voltammetry (time integral of the reduction peak of Cd), as well as by phase sensitive ac voltammetry. Measurements were carried out in the solution of 0.03 mole dm-3 NaHCO3, variable NaCl concentration, and at pH around 8.7. In the presence of linoleic acid strong accumulation of Cd(II) ion was observed on the electrode surface. The influence of Cd and NaCl concentration, time of accumularion, and electrode charge upon the Cd-linoleic acid adsorbed layer was investigated. Three types of adsorbed films are presumed to exist: a monolayer of acid with one atom of Cd interacting with two molecules of acid, a bilayer or a sandwich structure with the metal ion between two acid molecules, and a multilayer structure. In the first two cases one molecule of linoleic acid occupies between 0.67 and 0.94 nm2 of the electrode surface.
