Sažetak
Manipulating the child in the process of divorce is a series of practices parents use to send the child negative messages about the other parent, aiming at parental alienation or exclusion of the target parent from the child's life despite the fact that relationship between the child and the parent does not impose any risk or danger for the child and that it is, on the contrary, important for the child healthy emotional development. Manipulative practices are possible to identify when, e-g- one parent engages in bashing, insulting and/or disrespectful remarks about the other parent, falsely accuses the other parent of abuse, interferes or forbids contacts with that parent and similar. Clinical experience and scientific research show that manipulating the child and his/her feelings during divorce most often appears in high conflict divorce where one of the partners feels a strong impulse for revenge, strong anger towards the ex partner, inability to accept divorce, insecurity and fear of losing children's love. Accordingly, the manipulating parent has difficulties in separating own needs and feelings from child's needs and feelings and involves the child in his/her unfinished relationship with ex partner. Manipulating the child in the process of divorce is a serious problem. If unprevented or uncontrolled early, it can have serious and long term negative impact on child psycho-social development
