Sažetak
Establishment of efficient helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) is of vital interest for all the aspects of life in Croatia, especially for minimizing the consequences of road accidents and improving the medical care in specific situations - cardiovascular problems of older population, medical and rescue intervention on isolated locations and all the other critical situations, according to requirement of “golden hour”. Without those activities further perspectives of tourism development could be limited. It is optimal to establish flying bases in Split, Zadar, Rijeka, Zagreb and Pozega and to obtain five special dedicated helicopters, with 15 pilots, 15 urgent medical doctors and 15 medical rescue flyers, urgent medical receptions in five clinics and dispatch center for coordination of all activities. In this work are analyzed the benefits and determined the prerequisites for establishing the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) in Croatia.
