Sažetak
A detailed micro-paleontological investigation was performed on planktonic foraminiferal assemblages, spanning the interval from Zone P15 (Late Eocene) to Zone P22 (Late Oligocene) in three deep exploration wells (Jihar-1, Jihar-4 and Jihar-5) in Palmyra region in Syria. Planktonic foraminifera represented by turborotalids, pseudohastigerinids, small acarinids and rare tenuitelids are dominated in the Late Eocene foraminiferal association. Only a small amount of benthic foraminifera have been observed, therefore, sedimentation took place in deep, open sea environment. In the entire association, the gradual proportional increase of the benthic foraminifera through the Oligocene shows shallowing of the sedimentation environment. Subtropical, specialize planktonic foraminifera were replaced by opportunistic, cooler forms, such as globigerinids, cassigerinelids and globoturborotalitids. It can be concluded that the cooling reaches its maximum in the Eocen/Oligocen boundary.
