Sažetak
The development of any science, including anthropology, in small countries with small languages faces particular challenges in international contexts. Although this smallness, coupled with their peripheral geopolitical position is often considered a disadvantage, such countries may also possess competitive advantages in engaging in a strategic policy aimed at developing core competencies and nurturing scientific diversity. This paper considers how such a policy enabled members of the Croatian Anthropological Society not only to contribute to the institutionalization of anthropology in Croatia, but also to its visibility in regional and wider international contexts
