Sažetak
Introduction: Hip and knee replacement procedures in patients with osteoarthritis aim to reduce pain, improve mobility and functionality. Still, we do not know at what extent we provide to patients what they expected of joint replacement surgery. Objectives: To analyze patients' subjective postoperative satisfaction and joint perception, and to compare it to functional score after joint replacement. Methods: A prospective survey was conducted on 100 patients after total hip replacement (THR) and 100 patients after total knee replacement (TKR). Five questions were used to quantify the levels of postoperative satisfaction and joint perception: (1) Did you get what you wanted? (2) Is your life better after the surgery? (3) Would you do it again? (4) Would you recommend the operation to a friend? (5) How do you perceive your joint?. Oxford Hip Score(OHS) and Oxford Knee Score(OKS) were used to quantify the overall postoperative functionality. Results: The study showed that 73% of the patients with THR perceive the artificial joint as their own natural joint, but only 36% TKR patients perceive their new knee in the same way. Eighty-six percent of patients after THR and 79% of TKR patients stated they get what they whanted ut of the opreation. THR patients are more likely to go through the same operation again, and are more likely to recommend the same operation to friend. Patients that underwent total hip replacement, when compared to the patients that underwent total knee replacement, had significantly higher Oxford Scores (OHS 41.2, OKS 34.7, ). Conclusions: Both total hip replacement and total knee replacement surgery are associated with positive postoperative results and a high level of postoperative satisfaction for most of our patients. However, results are statistically better for THR patients.
