Sažetak
Out-of-court settlement for youth in conflict with the law is the only restorative measure in Croatian criminal justice system. It is victim- offender mediation model implemented 14 years ago in Zagreb, Osijek and Split learning from Austrian experiences. Until today there are no sophisticated researches conducted regarding the model in the Croatian context except two descriptive process evaluations (from 2006 till 2009). So, getting the deeper insight into its’ participants experiences is still a black box in Croatia despite the fact that many foreign researches in the field of restorative justice are done (though mainly using quantitative methodology) and show both positive and negative results. The purpose of this research is explorative and descriptive. Therefore, the research aims are to uncover and describe experiences with out- of-court settlement from the perspective of the offenders regarding two specific topics- their motivation for participation and possible benefits from the programme. In order to achieve this, qualitative methodology is used, semi-structured interview technic with offenders who have reached an agreement during out-of-court settlement in Zagreb and Osijek during 2013 and 2014. The data is analysed using thematic analysis.
