Sažetak
Appropriate growth reflects health status of an individual and a population and represents manifestation of the complex influences of hereditary predisposition and respective environmental factors. In male children, birth weight (BW) and birth height (BH) yielded significant correlation with height and weight at age 7, 11 and 15 years. In female children, a statistically significant correlation of BW and BL with height, weight and BMI was observed at age 11 and 15. In male children, BW showed a statistically significant correlation with BMI at age 7, 11 and 15. BL showed significant correlation with BMI in both male and female children at age 11 and 15. BW and BL were found to be significant predictors of growth at age 7-15. BMI was found to serve as a good indicator of growth during childhood and puberty in both male and female children. Study results support the hypothesis on the continuity of prenatal and postnatal growth in accordance with the genetic and ethnic predisposition, provided that favorable socioeconomic factors are ensured.
