Sažetak
Experiencing devastation in mass tourism and transition processes Croatia kept some negative managing forms slowly adjusting its policy to European trends. In that process significant attention was paid to quality and systematic management as a combination of policy and behaviour settled with the aim to enable a continuous course of development. Intense efforts were made in establishment of order in managing natural, material and human resources. Harmonization process still lasts, although it shows progress and certain stabilization of management. Considering actual situation in Croatian economy, it can be seen how only tourism achieves positive results, so it stands to reason why tourism is often called “tourism industry” and perceived as possible facilitator of socio- economic development. It is hard to argument tourism could generate socio-economic development, although tourism policy on national level could enable its sustainable development and significant impact on society and economy. The aim of this paper is to examine the issues mentioned, focusing particularly on Croatian tourism and fiscal policy and the intention to create sustainable tourism development. The given framework includes an analysis of the current situation in Croatia as a member of the European Union as well as it shows possibilities and constraints of sustainable tourism development in Croatia.
