WELCOME TO DUBROVNIK Welcome to the 16th edition of the oldest topical conference sponsored by IUVSTA - International Conference on Thin Films, of which a first one was held in Boston back in 1969. The International Symposium on Basic Problems in Thin Film Physics held at Clausthal-Göttingen in 1965 might be considered as precursor to the series. Such venerable history and actual vitality make the Organizers proud to organize this 16th International Conference on Thin Films on behalf of the IUVSTA Thin Film Division. The ICTF16 is the first in the series jointly organized by three neighbouring and long-time collaborating national vacuum societies - Croatian Vacuum Society, Hungarian Vacuum Society and Slovenian Vacuum Society. This joint effort energized our societies participation in and contribution to the IUVSTA activities. The ICTF16 International Advisory and Programme Committees composed/consisiting of established scientists and researchers from all over the world guarantee a high scientific level of the conference. Thin films and coatings are developing continuously in the ways of production, ever new applications and complexity, thus laying foundations for various advanced industries of today and the future. The International Conference on Thin Films is a primary multidisciplinary forum for all researchers and scientists working in this field and aiming to convey their results to the international community. It will present a unique opportunity for researchers, engineers and managers to meet and share new knowledge and experiences on thin films and coatings. A scientific program of actual conference covers fourteen topics recently adopted by the IUVSTA Thin Film Division. In four days of the conference, 4 plenary nad 18 invited lectures will be presented by the world renowned speakers. The bulk of the conference will be 116 oral contributions and 136 poster presentations - a valuable and inspiring program for the interested participant. We believe that our understanding of thin films and coatings will be enhanced through this conference. As usual, the conference is adjoined by an exhibition of manufacturers of thin films and coatings related products - the tools of our trade. The ICTF-16 is held in Dubrovnik, Croatia - also known as "The City" - a place of rich cultural tradition, historical fame, worldwide renown beauty, and traditional meeting point for people, scientists and students from all over the world. Venue of the conference - Hotel Rixos Libertas - offers excellent facilities, longtime organizational experience, and cordial welcome to the participants. We hope you will find them both interesting and stimulating enough to make this conference a memorable event.
