Sažetak
During 2008-9 the Department of Archaeological Heritage of Croatian Conservation Institute performed an archaeological rescue research at the Pul Vele crikve site in the old town of Rijeka. The size of the excavated area was approximately 1100 m². The site has been inhabited from the 1st century AD to the present day which enables us to track the diversity of historical periods. The oldest finds belong to the period from the 1st to the 4th century when Rijeka was a Roman municipality called Tarsatica. Remains of public baths with two construction phases were found. Older baths were smaller and more modest, built probably in the second half of the 1st century. In the second half of the 3rd century, the baths were rebuilt: they were larger and technically more advanced. Three rooms (two caldaria and a tepidarium) had underfloor heating system and one room with a large pool was identified as frigidarium. The purpose of other rooms still remains unknown because they were partially excavated.
