Sažetak
The essential principles underlying pharmaceutical care are the patients welfare and safety, and professional and equal approach to everyone, free choice of treatment, patients right to participate in deciding on the treatment type, confidentiality of personal medical data, permanent quality of services and the pharmacist's social and professional responsibility. Today , the pharmacist's role in Croatia is getting increasingly significant in reducing and prevention of medication errors, restricting distribution of non-authentic and sub-standard medicines, self-medication and drug treatment quality management. The national document on pharmacists' ethics (Code 1996) defines the applicable requirements, operation standards and professional responsibilities. The fast privatization of pharmaceutical sector and transition of the legal and economic system have brought to the surface the problems of unprofessional and non-ethical behaviour and decision making. By implementing measures for elimination of these problems, an attempt was made to build up a system to autonomous professional supervision and to amend standards and procedures in rendering services, pharmacists' competition and their mutual cooperation.
