Sažetak
Roma, a transnational minority of Indian origin, are a founder population comprised of many groups of successive founders, which originated as a result of different socio-cultural characteristics. Due to the firm social practice of endogamy, the gene pools of different Roma groups are extremely prone to the influence of genetic drift, which results in substantial genetic differences between them. In order to established possible differences in the genetic structure of numerous Romani groups, we studied Romani individuals from Croatia who speak two different languages, Romani-chib and ljimba d’ bjaš. We analyzed autosomal STR markers and uniparental loci (mtDNA and Y chromosome) using PCR based fragmental analysis, RFLP analysis and sequencing. Intra- and inter-population structure was analyzed using appropriate statistical software. The analyzed loci showed that genetic structure of different Roma groups in Croatia is marked by various intensity and sources of admixture, in addition to pronounced effect of genetic drift. Results indicate the importance of socio-cultural characteristics in the formation of genetic structure in founder populations.
