Sažetak
Prenatal ultrasound enhances the detection of neonatal disorders, but raises new questions regarding evaluation and management of asymptomatic lesions. Four newborns with prenatally detected cystic suprarenal masses have been encountered and illustrate the importance of thorough evaluation and a high index of suspicion for neoplasia. Three had solitary, simple appearing cysts without irregularity of the cystic wall. The forth had solid areas associated with the cyst. Two of the lesions enlarged prenatally. None had evidence of renal origin. All underwent exploration and excision ; 3 were cystic neuroblastomas and one was a neurenteric cyst lined with gastric epithelium.Neoplasm should be suspected in any suprarenal cystic lesion particulary with a mass component, a thick or irregular cyst wall, internal echogenicity, or increasing size.Suprarenal cystic masses detected prenatally should be vigorously evaluated and managed as possible neoplastic lesion until histologic diagnosis is established.
