Sažetak
The whole sample consisted of 94 patients with osteoarthritis of TMJ (mean age 48.48±16 years, 90.4% female) and divided in two groups: Group-1 were 25 patients aged over 60 (mean age 67.57±5.6 years) and the remaining 69 patients were Group-2 (median age 41.57±12.6 years). A recall was carried out after the patients’ treatment by splint and physiotherapy. Clinical diagnostics was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Pain intensity (before treatment (T0) and after 1- year- follow-up (T1)) was rated on a visual- analogue scale (VAS 1-10). The psychological assessment was carried out by State- Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). There was no statistical difference between average pain on VAS at T0 in Group-1/Group: 6.3/6.4 and at T1 recall 1.1/1.7. There was no difference (p>0.05) between Group- 1/Group-2 patients in STAI 1 (40/41) and STAI 2 (43/42) scores. However, in both groups of patients (Group-1/Group-2) there was a positive correlation between STAI 2 scores for pain after treatment (T1): p=0.03/p=0.037. For Group 1, there was a negative correlation between pain at T0 and duration of pain (p=0.019) and a positive correlation for STAI 1 (p=0.02) and STAI 2 (p=0.012) regarding the patients' age. MRI is the non-ionizing gold standard in TMJ diagnostics. General anxiety (STAI 2) had an impact on pain intensity after therapy for both groups of patients. A higher level of anxiety was shown in both patients’ groups.
