Sažetak
Introduction Contemporary approach to children with disabilities is based on principle that all children are born with same basic needs. From year 2005, Croatian Ministry of science, education and sport clearly opted for integration (inclusion) of students with disabilities into regular educational system. Diagnostic procedures for determination of type of disability, appropriate form of education and various types of support are regulated trough legislation. Aim: The aim of this study was to present the number of children with disabilities in education system in Croatia. Results: children with disabilities and developmental disorders comprise 4% of total child population in Croatia in school year 2011/2012, 346 347 children attended primary schools in regular school classes were integrated 84.6%, and in special 15.4% of children with disabilities children with severe disabilities 2280 (11.6%) were included in classes in 19 special institutions the most common reasons for appropriate forms of education were communication disorders and learning difficulties (32%) and multiple disorders (26%), both more present in boys (63.4%) personal assistance in education had 529 (3%) stu dents with disabilities integrated in regular schools there were more boys (63, 4 %) than girls support to parents is given by mobile expert teams Conclusions: • most of the documents and regulations of Croatia adopted, but lacks consistent, continuous and consistent realization of the rights proclaimed • inadequate connectivity department, the use of expert knowledge and a multidisciplinary approach to child protection early diagnosis of problems and appropriate intervention in terms of determining appropriate form of education are very important f or further psychosocial development preventive health care measures provided by school health service, good communication and cooperation between relevant institutions, utilization of expertise and multidisciplinary approach are important in taking care of children with disabilities and their integration in regular educational system.
