Sažetak
Experimenting could be a part of adolescence, also it could lead to addiction and diseases. The aim of study was to determine prevalence of binge drinking, smoking and experimentation with illicit drugs among first year medical students at University of Zagreb in period of ten years. Study included 2854 students (65% female) from academic year 2004/05 to 2013/14 who completed “School Health Survey”. Minimum and maximum prevalence of binge drinking among female students was 51% (2004/5) and 70% (2013/14), respectively ; among males 72% (2009/10) and 83% (2006/07). For destructive behaviour related to binge drinking, among female students 7% (2007/08) and 18% (2011/12) ; in males 10% (2007/08) and 33% (2009/10). For physical violence related to binge drinking among female students 1% (2009/10) and 9% (2004/05) ; in males 7% (2013/14) and 20% (2004/5). Prevalence of daily smokers among female students was lowest 8% (2009/10) and highest 13% (2012/13) ; in males it was 4% (2009/10) and 13% (2008/09). Minimum and maximum prevalence of experimenting with marihuana among female students was 14% (2010/11) and 25% (2013/14) ; in males 22% (2009/10) and 37% (2013/14). Results showed that prevalence of smoking and experimenting with illicit drugs were stable among medical students in the ten years period. Binge drinking prevalence was high and stable among male students, while in females showed increase, which indicates the need of alcohol abuse prevention programs.
