Sažetak
The Western corn rootworm Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte (WCR) is one of the most important pests of maize. Despite many research programs in USA and Europe, no maize cultivars currently claim native resistance to WCR larval feeding. 2007-2010 year we tested 127 different genotypes of maize cultivar: 119 inbred lines from different heterotic groups from Agricultural institute Osijek in Croatia and 8 populations with contained tolerance from U.S.A., Missouri. Field trials were conducted on two locations in Croatia, on perennial monoculture. Root damage, root regrowth and root size were determined. Number of adults was monitored each year with pheromone traps. Statistically significant differences were determined between genotypic variability and years, but not between genotype and location interactions. Heritability determined for Croatian inbred lines were 50% for root damage, 74 % for root regrowth and 75% for root size. American standards didn't showed superior results in compare to Croatian maize inbred lines. Each genotype with confirmed tolerance were used to create crosses in further years until 2013, in resistance breeding programs against WCR larval feeding in Croatia.
