Sažetak
The term "apoptosis"originates from Greek and means "fallinf of leaves". In 1972 Kerr was the first to use this in medical science to describe degeneration of cells without activated inflamatory reaction. Apoptosis is a genetically programed sequence of biochemical and morphological changes manifested by formation of small "granular protuberancies" on plasma membrane, by cell shrinkage, fragmentation, and chromatin condensation on the nuclear membrane. Despite all these chromatin changes cell organelles remain undamaged. The process further continues with desintegration of cells in a number of small so-called "apoptotic bodies" enveloped by disintegrated cell membrane. These bodies are then phagocytized by macrophages and adjacent cells without initiated inflamatory reaction. Unlike apoptosis, cell necrosis is characterised by cell expansion, loss of membrane integrity, desintegration of cellulare organelles, intumescence of cell nucleus, DNA fragmentation, release of lysosomal enzymes, lack of "apoptotic bodies", and strong surrounding inflamatory reaction.
