Sažetak
Remediation of the city of Zagreb Jakusevec Dump Site, one of the largest dump sites in Europe, is in progress. Protection of existing and future well fields in thath area from the horisontal flow of leachate from the dump site is considered one of the top priority problems for the development of the city and nearby villages. The first pilot constructed wetland (PCW) has been built in Croatia to determine the purification ability of leachate from the first section of the landfill Jakusevec, as well as their polishing in the polishing pond. In the initial period of workigg, the ability of maintaining the pH values and temperature in the PCW with the passing of leachate, has been noticed. The mean value of purification efficiency at the exit of the PCW has been: NH4-N (82.5%), NO2-N (-0.4%), NO3-N (19.8%), PO4 (62.3%), fecal coliforms (98.1%), total coliforms (94.9%), saprophytic bacteria (94.7%).
