Sažetak
Mapping the development of the Central Lika landscape (Republic of Croatia) using Landsat Imagery is going to be conducted in this study. The most significant development is occurring due to depopulation of the local inhabitants and due to processes of deruralization and deagrarization. The consequences of the previously mentioned processes are extenzification of land and changes processes of reforestation and landscape equalization. The edge parts of the study area are particularly affected by the speed and negative intensity of these processes. On the other hand, population growth and more favourable age structure are present in the central part (settlements of Gospić and Lički Osik). Correspondingly, the landscape of the edge parts is more neglected whereas the landscape of the central part is put to more use. The highway, built in 2004, represents the most important anthropogenic influence in the study area. Nowadays land-use changes can be successfully monitored at global, regional and local scale using satellite remote sensing imagery. The aim of this study is to conduct mapping of the land-use and land-cover (LULC) development in the Central Lika landscape and to establish the developmental typology using Landsat images in past and in present. Due to the development of a new methodological approach for landscape development analysis using remote sensing data (in this case Landsat Imagery), this study contributes to both research methods of heritage and landscape of rural areas and the remote sensing as a science.
