Sažetak
As Croatia recently celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the proclamation of its independence as a state, a question arises as to whether the complex processes of the establishment of its statehood are understood. The responses to such a question are indeed incredible, as seen by many facts, beginning with the most rudimentary of newspaper polls among Croatian citizens. The author of this work describes the legal process by which Croatia achieved sovereignty and independence, beginning with the constitutional proclamation of its independence and its severance of all constitutional ties with the Yugoslav Federation and its republics. He goes on to consider the processes related to its international recognition. The work provides an overview of historical events and, in its introduction, includes a short review of the concept of the state as the dominant subject of international law.
