Sažetak
Cesarean section is commonly an emergency procedure. Anesthesia for all parturitants should be based upon safety to the mather and fetus. The choice of an anesthetic protocol must be based upon knowledge of the physiologic alterations induced by pregnancy and labor, the pharmacology of the drugs when administered in perinatal period and their direct and indirect effects on the fetus. Cesarean section can be accomplished either by regional or general anesthesia. General anesthesia provides optimum operating conditions with a relaxed immobile patient. Tracheal intubation ensures control of maternal airway, preventing aspiration of vomitus. Spinal anesthesia has advantages of simplicity of technique and minimal exposure of the fetus to drugs. Reversible anesthetics are preffered in anesthetic protocol. Anesthetic agentsthat can be reversed are preferred in anesthetic protocol. Duration of anesthesia and doses of inhalant anesthetics should be minimum. In conclusion, opioides and benzodiazepines in premedication, propofol in induction and isoflurane maintainance are ideal combination for cesarean section.
