Sažetak
Textile material is an important segment in a hospital environment and it has significant influence in evaluating the quality of health service. One of the biggest problems in hospitals concerns hospital infections. Despite the progress of modern medicine, 5-10% patients admitted to hospital acquire healthcare related infection, with often fatal consequences. Sterilization plays an important role in preventing hospital related infections. Everything coming into contact with patient must be sterilized. Medical textiles are contaminated by microorganisms during their use. Therefore, it is very important to sterilize them. Besides safety and hygienic purposes as well as clothing, textiles are used in medicine for safety packing of material in sterilization. In fact, after sterilization surgical material is packed in textile material and stored in special rooms until the moment they are used. Their use in surgery and sterilization reduces the quantity of disposable infectious material and enables multiple uses. Safety packing after the sterilization reduces the amount of infectious waste and enables multiple uses. The new testing method of the microbial barrier durability after the sterilization process was developed in cooperation with the Clinical-Hospital Centre Zagreb and Faculty of Textile Technology with the goal of testing durability of the microbial barrier of medical textiles. The paper also contains testing of the microbial barrier function whose task is to protect the sterilized material against new contamination.
