Sažetak
I Ching, or the book of changes, is an ancient
system of philosophy based on the polarity of
opposites, yin and yang. The basic ordering of the
symbols involves 64 hexagrams. The system of
hexagrams is built up from two lines representing
yin (broken line) and yang (solid line). Hexagrams
are obtained from 8 basic trigrams. According to
Chinese philosophy the patterns of I Ching
hexagrams are archetypal symbols that describe
cosmic flow of the Tao, within the universal
network of events. We discuss the similarity
between I Ching symbols and modern symbolic
descriptors for the analysis of dynamical
systems, genetic code and protein structure. It is
emphasized that coding algorithms for storing and
transmission of biochemical information resemble
the I Ching patterns.
