Sažetak
The aim of this researh was to assess fiber type selectivity in the hypertroohic response and fiber type composition when treated with salbutamol, a beta (2) adrenoreceptor agonist, over a 14 day period. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: control, teated with salbutamol, denervated and treated with salbutamol after denervation. The muscles were denervated using crush method with pean while salbutamol was injected intraperitonealy twice a day for 2 weeks. Frozen cross-sections were stained for myosin ATP-ase, pH 9, 4. Cross sectional area and percent of muscle fibers were analyzed morphometrically by computerized image analysis. In the denervated group which was treated with salbutamol, the increase of cross sectional area in the fibers type II were some lower compared to fiber type I. In the innervated group treated with salbutamol, cross sectional area of both fiber types increased during the experiment. We also observed that the number of fiber type II was increased in both group, denervated and innervated with salbutamol. Our results suggest a role of beta (2) adrenoreceptor in regulating muscle fiber type composition as well as their growth. Since denervation induced atrophy was improved by salbutamol we assume that application of salbutamol, like other beta (2) adrenoreceptor agonists, may be one of the therapeutic modalities for the treatment of certain neuromuscular disorders.
