Sažetak
Language teachers often feel the need (or pressure) to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their teaching, but they may not think that they have the necessary overview of the range of available online tools or may lack the confidence to use them. When using ICT in teaching, it is crucial that pedagogical and technological issues go hand in hand. More specifically, as claimed by Stickler and Hampel (in press) teachers need to be aware of the constraints and possibilities of the online medium, the skill to facilitate communication and online socialization and the ability to foster learner creativity. One way of helping teachers in achieving this (tall) order is by offering them just-in-time hands-on training combining pedagogy and technology, allowing them to share experiences with other teachers, and letting them keep in mind the needs of their learners. This workshop presents and illustrates how this was put into practice in the project entitled Use of ICT in Support of Language Teaching and Learning project (http://ict-rev.ecml.at/en-us/), carried out within the framework of a cooperation agreement between the European Centre for Modern Languages and the European Commission (http://www.ecml.at/Programme/ECMLECCooperation/tabid/1461/language/en-GB/Default.aspx). The project team developed and delivered a number of blended training workshops and created a searchable inventory of open tools organized according to a variety of pedagogical and practical criteria. The workshops and the inventory are based on the principles of modularity, immediate implementation, reflectivity, sharing and openness, which are in line with sociocultural and constructivist theories of learning. The present workshop will illustrate the evidence-based and reflective approach taken by the team in delivering the workshops and developing the training materials. The participants will be asked to reflect on their own teaching practice, their own use of online tools, and will create a mini online or blended activity using a tool (or tools) of their choice (that they may or may not be familiar with). Finally, the participants will reflect on the added value and limitations of doing their activity online. References Stickler, Ursula and Regine Hampel. in press.
